Who am I?
My name is Moshe and years ago I learned Yiddish from scratch, just like you. I have no Yiddish relations and I had no Yiddish-speaking friends when I first started (though now I have many, both in Israel, where I live, and all over the world). I was inspired to learn Yiddish on the streets of Jerusalem while studying for the year. I was 18 and had never been to such a beautiful and exciting place; I fell in love with it immediately and have been spreading Yiddish ever since.

People often ask me if it’s possible to learn Yiddish without studying grammar and I explain that, contrary to what you may have felt at school, grammar is your friend, not your enemy, and works as a roadmap to the language.
If you don’t learn the grammar, you have to learn parrot-fashion every single sentence you might possibly want to say and the predicted answers to each one. Imagine what hard work that would be!!
